Ashen Visage
Donald P. Goodman III
Version 1.0,
An ashen visage, pale and empty; that's the face
to fill with healthful color; drained of every hue
and all its vigor, ready to be filled anew,
the man stands wan and weary in that snowy place;
all weak and worn from running that long-ranging race,
he spies the holly dappled with the morning dew,
its prickly greenery so lovely to pursue,
his face now flush and ready to complete the chase!
So drain the color! Empty every vacant shade
and wash away the tainted tints that e'er efface
the holy hues of Him who all these colors made,
and fill the lines with all the shades of truth and grace!
