The Vast Forever
Donald P. Goodman III
Version 1.0,
For countless ages turns the world about the sun,
and countless ages spins the sun in endless flame;
and countless ages they'll keep spinning, as they've spun,
and countless other worlds and stars are just the same.
And endless light-years spans the universe so wide;
o'er endless vastness spreads the world, so cold and black;
so endless light itself in vain seeks distant side,
so endless strongest 'scopes feel their own hopeless lack.
With countless time and endless breadth, what hope have we
of comprehending life or love, or hope, or wrack?
With countless worlds and endless time, such vast degree,
can mortal soul the whole forever hope to see?
